We look for smarts (not the same as grades), talent and initiative. Interestingly, we haven't yet found even the slightest correlation between these qualities and the schools one attends.

I once worked for a manager who thought that the school you attended reflected what you thought about yourself, so if you attended Harvard, she reasoned you had great self-esteem and confidence, but if you attended one of the smaller, more affordable schools, she thought you lacked those.

I pointed out that in my experience, the school you attended reflected the job that your father had, and what the family could afford to spend on your education.
