The Fool: What was the most significant discovery of the last century?
mercyn: The discovery of penicillin is one of the most significant discoveries, leading to a revolution in medical advances and extending lives decades.
The Fool: What lesson do you wish you’d learned ten years ago?
mercyn: When it is time for a change in your life do not hesitate. Go for it.
The Fool: What was your first educational exposure to investing?
mercyn: Learning about my spouse's 401(k)when he began work after college, deciding how much to invest, learning about mutual funds and exactly what retirement accounts were all about.
The Fool: What's been your best investment to date, and how did you discover it?
mercyn: My best investments have resulted from either personal experiences with a company's products or services, or suggestions from others (usually my kids). Over the years these have included Whole Foods, Hain Celestial, Ben and Jerry's,and Green Mountain Coffee.
The Fool: Do you have a favorite company or stock which the worldwide Foolish community should know about -- and why?
mercyn: not really - I am working on that!
