The Fool: To what extent has your financial success, or lack thereof, been the result of luck versus skill?
hely74: Almost all my success was luck. The remainder was due to me not knowing what to do and inaction was usually successful.
The Fool: Does ethics or 'socially responsible investing' have a place in your investment approach? How so? How not?
hely74: I don't knowingly invest in illegal activities.
The Fool: What was your first educational exposure to investing?
hely74: A hot tip on a stock destined to fail, and a broker that charged high commissions.
The Fool: What's been your best investment to date, and how did you discover it?
hely74: Baxter International. A friend was a driver for them, and they were very busy. That investment lead to the spinoff of Edwards Lifesciences Corp. That stock has appreciated greater than 1000%.
