| The Fool: | To what extent has your financial success, or lack thereof, been the result of luck versus skill? |
| hwm: | After several failed attempts,I got lucky for about 25% of my seed money. Another 50% came from hard work and learning experience. The last 25% has come from luck and the determination to practice what I learned and actually buy and hold. |
| The Fool: | Does ethics or 'socially responsible investing' have a place in your investment approach? How so? How not? |
| hwm: | I don't knowingly invest in illegal activities. |
| The Fool: | What was your first educational exposure to investing? |
| hwm: | A hot tip on a stock destined to fail, and a broker that charged high commissions. |
| The Fool: | What's been your best investment to date, and how did you discover it? |
| hwm: | Baxter International. A friend was a driver for them, and they were very busy. That investment lead to the spinoff of Edwards Lifesciences Corp. That stock has appreciated greater than 1000%. |
