Last week, my 13 yr old daughter flew across several states to spend a few weeks of summer vacation with her paternal grandparents in a small town.

The grandparents attend church every Sunday and the congregation trends toward the ultra conservative. I've tried to raise her to have an open mind and open heart.

This afternoon she calls me and I could tell right away that she was upset.

It seems the minister was speaking out against the recent court decision and railing against homosexuality as a sin and worse. After the service, the church members also gathered around to discuss their own displeasure with the decision.

I asked how she felt and whether she said anything to them. She said she was shocked but out of concern for her grandparents she remained quiet and went outside to walk around, but her first thought was to call me after they got home.

I aked what it was she wanted to tell me and she replied: "I'm just relieved that we (in our house) don't know that kind of hate."
