A few things are much to my surprise to the benefit of the cursed capitalist. An employee isn't allowed to quit without giving quite significant notice.
OK, I know this is on a tangent, but this made me think of a 'discussion' I had with my current employer prior to my hiring. The contract said (I don't remember the wording exactly) there was no notice period. I said I was used there being a 30 days notice period. I was basically told that was not how they do things in the US. I tried to explain the period was as much, if not more, for him than for me. The answer was still no.
I have never in my career been fired, but I've had some bosses turn white when I gave them the 30 day notice. I can't imagine the response if I say I leave 'right now', which I'm currently perfectly allowed to do.
IMO an employer should always be willing to forego one month's worth of pay for the assurance an employee can't walk out on them. But apparently that rationale hasn't made it into the bastion of capitalism yet.
