A follow-up...If I was to upgrade to 64 MB RAM as you suggested, should I also opt to add a little memory? I would like to take a few steps...ones that would be effective for the most part...for a few hundred bucks. Otherwise, I would rather simply buy a new HD.

I paid about $1800 for my HP PC three years ago, and $99 for a 4-year service contract, and I'm in about the same position you are. If I upgrade my PC, I would add a faster video card (I only have 1MB video memory and Netscape freezes a lot) and a larger HD, but I'm letting it limp along for now, with the possibility of buying a new PC early next year.

You'll need to look for good advice (such as a recent thread starting at http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?id=1350005000288000&sort=id ) on HD upgrades.
