A guess... Obsession by Asia?

It has a definite "broadway show" feel to it, with parts sung by a lead singer, and other parts by a choir sounding almost like a church choir.

I think the reason it struck me as so strange is that it had a very unusual sound, and yet was being played in Meijers, a regional Wal-Mart like store.

I seem to like "unusual" songs. I remember once hearing a song that I really liked, but which wasn't identified by the DJ. It was unusual for it's extremely long fade-in, and it's length of over 10 minutes.

One day it came on the radio and I immediately called up a friend who identified it as "Low Spark of High Healed Boys."

Anyway, if I get really gutsy, I'll record a bit of my trying to sing/hum the tiny snippet of melody I can recall, and post that recording online.
