A little late to the discussion, but... although you'll likely not be charged a commission, the expiry may count as a trade. I got flagged as a pattern day trader at one brokerage because several call options that I bought on expiration Friday expired worthless and they counted the expiration as a trade that occurred on Friday. Most brokers do the expiration on Saturday.
