This board has been so quiet for the past few months that I wonder if anyone will see this post. However, I'm pleased to announce that my father has just has his second book published: FIRE on the Hangar Deck (subtitled "Ordeal of the Oriskany").

It's the account of how the storage of magnesium flares, used to light the flight deck on an aircraft carrier, went terribly awry, resulting in a fire that killed many naval aviators and other crew on board that aircraft carrier. From the parts I've skimmed so far, it's sure to be and enlightening and interesting read.

My dad was the CO of VA-163 shortly before this terrible incident occurred. "Fortunately," he was shot down during a bombing run of North Vietnam a couple months earlier, and lost an arm in the process. I say fortunately because he's still with us. If his plane hadn't caught that piece of shrapnel, he would likely have died in the fire, as did many of his cohorts. Small blessings, doncha know?!

who will be back to tell anyone who's listening about her recent "Internet miracle"...
