You can't make stuff like this up. Sometimes things come together in amazing ways.

About four years ago I went up to the Smokey Mountains to see the fall colors and we stopped in Asheville North Carolina one evening and went downtown for dinner only to find cars filling every available parking spot but very few people on the streets. We finally found a parking spot when someone happened to pull out just as we were driving by.

We had dinner then started walking around and when we got to the area around the convention center we found out what was going on.

It turns out that Asheville has a Zombie Walk each year that was that night. They had has somewhere around 700 people dressed up as Zombies and it was a planned event with the approval of the local authorities with things like a parade permit and traffic control and it ended downtown in front of the convention center

That is odd enough but this is where it gets weird.

This was in the middle of the 2008 election campaign and Sarah Palin made a last minute change in her campaign schedule and was speaking at the Asheville convention center.

This meant that 700 zombies were marching towards the convention center where Sarah Palin was speaking. The Zombie walk organizers got the zombies to agree to be non-partisan and end contacted the secret service to let them know what was going on. (That had to be an interesting phone call!)

By the time we arrived the zombies had already arrived and were milling about outside the convention center but the streets were not all that crowded because most of the that were there to see Sarah Palin were inside the convention center.

Now this is where it gets even a bit odder.

Other than the zombies the most of the other people who were outside on the street were a few "right to life" supporters who apparently did not have tickets to get inside so they were standing around with various signs and literature. To say that it was odd to see "right to lifers" and zombies together would be an understatement.
