A variable annuity should have several equity choices, all mutual fund look-alikes. Check out Vanguard and Fidelity. They aren't that bad. My dad invested in an annuity and when he died, I decided to put the annuity money in another annuity. $35000 has grown to over $100000 in 9 years. Not great, but I think acceptable. The money market choices are not good; if you do this go for the gusto with small cap or international funds. Chris
