A very large portion of your decision depends on your health and how long you expect to live. I would do the math to figure out how long you need to collect those full benefits to break even compared to reduced benefits at an earlier age.

Remember, quite few people kick the bucket without ever collecting a dime from social security. They and their heirs thus lose the value of all those SS insurance payments they have paid over the years.

This is another one everyone must decide for themselves based on their own situation. Like always, make the right choices and you will come out ahead. The right choice for you may not be the same as the one your neighbor made.
