I finally got the information I needed to nominate a charity for this year's charity drive nominations, and today I found out that I'm about a week and a half too late to submit it for review. It was suggested that I post this here anyway, so that people would at least be aware of the efforts of some fine volunteers who are involved in this worthy cause. There is a humane effort that my wife and I have become involved with. The organization is called SpotSavers, and they are dedicated to the rescue and placement of unwanted Dalmatians, especially in St. Louis and the surrounding areas. The following are excerpts from their web site, www.spotsavers.org:"Since the release in 1996 of the Disney movie 101 Dalmatians, the numbers of discarded Dals has increased dramatically. Many of these Dalmatians have died in shelters because there are not enough homes available, and because most people insist on having a pupy instead of an adult dog.""Our all-volunteer Dalmatian Rescue organization finds homes for unwanted Dalmatians. We do not have a shelter or kennel, but depends upon foster homes for Dalmatians in our care. Those in foster care, which is in short supply, usually come from local pounds or shelters."We have become foster 'parents' of one of the rescued Dals and are nurturing this sick little one back to a happy, healthy, loving dog, who will soon need a loving place to call home.Anyone who is interested about their efforts can learn more about them through their website: www.spotsavers.org or you can e-mail me and I can try to answer your questions. Thanks for listening.MJ
