"While I think the original unadulterated Atkins diet is sound, many of the products with the branding are no good."

While I agree that we ingest too many carbs in our diet, I probably fall more into the balanced diet approach of equal portions of carbs and proteins being a healthier approach to eating rather than low to zero carbs. However, when I walk into a store and see beef jerky with an Atkins label on it, I question the soundness of the marketing plan.

Sure, it's high in protein, low in fat, and has zero carbs, but the sodium levels are high enough to preserve several sides of beef. Cholesterol also tends to be high. Perhaps more discretion as to what they lend their name to might be more appropriate.
