Actually it does make some sense. If you were a thief and stole a credit card/wallet what would you do? You would go find out if it was still good and not wanting to be in a shop incase it was reported as stolen, right? Therefore, a lot of thieves will go and try to charge the gas. If it works they know they got a good card.You would think that as long as they called you about the gas they would ask about the other stuff, but really if you say the gas charge was yours and you are speaking to them I guess they assume you still have the card and there is nothing to worry about.
