Actually, this was a number of years ago. I haven't sent money to a loaded fund in a long time. Just about 4 years and 400 posts ago. :)


LOL. Same here. I still have a whole bunch of American Funds stuff. I figger I already paid the load, and the annual costs are lower than average (mostly less than 1%), and they have served me reasonably well. American believes in substantial off-shore holdings in the mix, so that particular diversification is automatic for the owner.

By coincidence, I am meeting with the guy on Monday. I will be dumping the variable annuity, which hasn't justified its existence. Will also discuss cutting down on Small Cap World. which is up 47% so far this year, but barly above even since 1999.

... all new purchases of late have been Vanguard indexes, mainly the Extended Market Index Fund (VEXMX) and the REIT Index Fund (VGSIX)
