...After Christmas we were looking over all the "loot" and a few of us commented on how much wasted money and commercial excess is involved in the holiday. We also talked about how there are so many people in need, how much stress is involved, and how much time it all takes.

We decided that we needed to change our approach to holiday gifting, so we all agreed to a change for our family. Instead of giving useless and wasteful gifts to each other, we decided that we would only buy gifts for the children and in lieu of gifts to each other we would each volunteer or donate to a charity of our choice (in addition to the usual ones and in a bigger way.) ...
