Ah, and the other part of your question: if the drug is available in the US but is cheaper elsewhere: if your trip to Canada, including mileage and tolls came to less than buying the medication in the US, then I would expect that to be OK.
If you save $5 by buying the medication in Canada you won't get away with deducting a week in Lake Louise.
