Alan Greenspan endorsed a major shift in taxation, from focusing on what people earn to focusing on what they spend.

There are two major problems with that concept. Sales taxes are regressive, hurting low income people more than high income people.

The major problem we have in this country is with the word "earn." We have far too wide a gap between what people actually earn and what they collect! No one earns more than $200,000, which is what we should pay surgeons and teachers. Why can't we simply outvote the people collecting unearned millions and raise income taxes back to where they belong? Why do so amny people vote against their own best interests year after year?
