Something is really screwy at MoneyCentral, and the price history tables only show prices since Jan 2007. So I am going to turn off the weekly BMW chart updates and the charts at http://invest.kleinnet.com/bmw1 will stay frozen at last week's data.

I haven't investigated this a lot yet so am not sure what will happen next.

One option, if MoneyCentral doesn't get fixed, is to move to Compustat data -- definitely higher quality and I already have the approval from Standard and Poors to publish the same charts. It just so happens that I have a subscription to Compustat already for a different screen. However -- and this is a big however -- I am limited to 20 years price history. It costs extra (a lot extra) to get another 20 years of price history.

Mike,

As a temporary workaround, and depending on the quality of the MoneyCentral data you already have for those companies with greater than 20 years of history, could you combine the two sources by using MSN monthly price data up until 20 years ago and then use Compustat data up until the present? However, maybe this "temporary" solution creates so much work that it's not worth it. And trying to keep track of splits/spin-offs could be a nightmare. Oh well, just a thought.

Thanks for the work you've put into the charts. It doesn't go unappreciated.

Just curious...why didn't you program it to store the history, then every week, add only the past week's history? Too much disk space or something?

Only if you ask for more than 10 years of data. Right now, Jan 1 1997 is the oldest date you can ask for. It "edits" any older date you give it and changes it to a 2007 date.

I hope that doesn't mean it's a permanent change...

The problem is maintenance. Stocks change symbols, have splits, get acquired, etc. If I kept the full history I would have to track all those events and correct for them. It is a whole lot easier to download the full history each week.

Mike,

I do not have any expertise, but I would be willing to help financially.

I am willing to kick in some dough towards Compustat data.
