Allison mentioned her Providian Visa at 23.99 percent. Providian is, in my opinion, not a very warm and fuzzy company to deal with. I have had my account for 4 years at this same interest rate, and a couple months back, after reading on the boards some of the success stories people have had to tell about successful inquiries about getting their rates lowered, I called them up. At first, they didn't want to budge. Basically, I incredulously asked them why, since I had been a good customer with not a single late payment for 4 years, I couldn't get a more competitive rate. Finally, the guy gave in and lowered it to 19.99 percent. Whoopee. It's better, but I guess I was expecting something more reasonable from them. Needless to say, I'm snowballing that puppy; I have about $3400 left on it, and I'm going to attack that balance like a dog attacks bacon.Anyway, the point I started out with was that you should call them and press for a better rate. :)-Devin
