This is how long I was on the phone to US Bank to be able to delete my husband from my REI Card and ascertain that I could keep the account. At the very end of the call, it turned out that while "joint", I was the primary account holder.

So far, AMEX was the easiest to deal with and I wasn't the primary on that account(knew that but it was one I wanted to keep if possible).

I'm actually done calling - I have the accounts I want and the rest I am doing nothing with. The assumption seems to be that I'm calling so they will write off debt and I end up with collections no matter what I say or the status of the account.

Strangely enough Discover was the only one that did anything automatically. From his credit report, they close an account automatically once the SS death benefit has be applied for or paid.
