Also sad in a strange sort of way: when my kids (grown up kids) entered international music competitions held here in the U.S., the brochure for the competition had to repeat over and over again, in italics and bold print, that competitors should NOT think that if they have a health problem "it will somehow be taken care of" by the richest nation on earth. Instead, competitors were encouraged to (i.e., told that they should) BUY insurance for the time they they would spend in the U.S.

These were huge international competitions, and the competitors came from various civilized countries, and many of them had already participated in other international music competitions in other civilized countries. But the brochure had to SCREAM its message.
