Also, to get this board more active, I wonder if it would help us and give us another way to lance the boil to share parts of our stories. Would anonymity be a concern?
Sure, that's why the horror stories from guest speakers are so popular at the meetings ;-)
We maintain anonymity as a matter of business practice anyway, so nobody is going to know who anyone is unless that person wants it that way.
I'll share. I used to work about 25 miles from home. Half the distance was state road, two lane highway, the last half was interstate. Those of us who drive fast anyway just love to drive really fast when we drink. And I drank often after work, before driving home.
Ford Torinos weren't known as fast cars, but I swapped my 2 barrel carb for a 4 barrel, and could get it up to 110 mph. Last time I did that was at about 12:30am, on I-90. I could see a truck a half mile away, with a car close behind. Didn't take long to close the distance at 110, and the car waited until I was right there before pulling out in front of me to pass the truck.
I spiked the brakes, got immediately broadside to the road, and entered the middle. If I had been going slower, I'd probably have gotten stuck and rolled it. At this speed, I plowed up mud and grass like a bulldozer, coming out the other side going the wrong way.
There wasn't any traffic, and I drove the wrong way on the shoulder until I came to a police turnaround to get the proper side of the interstate.
There were a hundred ways to die in those few moments. God truly does look after drunks sometimes.
Cheers, Richard
