“Although nutrition standards for foods sold at school alone may not be a determining factor in children’s overall diets, they are critical to providing children with healthy food options throughout the entire school day,” the proposed rule states.

Where I live you have fast food restaurants located right across the street from high schools. If the kids can't get their unhealthy snacks at school, it's just too easy to get them on the outside.

This afternoon I went to Popeye's (located across the street from the local high school -- I made sure I got there early enough to eat and get out before school let out, thank you Chicago Public Schools for lengthening the school day!) and had the Tuesday Special -- two pieces of chicken, a side, and a biscuit for $2.99 plus tax.

When I walked there (about 1.25 miles from my home) it was windy, then on the way home the wind had stopped but it had started snowing, then by the time I got to Walmart to pick up a couple items the sun was coming out. If you don't like Chicago's weather, just wait a few minutes and it'll change. <grin>

Supposed to be a sweltering 40 degrees by the end of the week.
