I want to hear from liberals.
I've heard enough from conservatives to last me a lifetime.
Sorry, but I've seen the pain out here "

And the solution to the 'pain' is to punish those who do well, and reward those who don't do as well?

SS is already 'means tested' to some degree, and likely to be taxed at 100% after a certain income. The gov't gives with one hand, and takes back a third with the other hand to anyone 'middle class' or above.

The problem with a "national single payer health care system' is that it won't provide 'health care', but will provide to 'cure' one heck of a lot of 'illness' due to people's inability to take care of themselves. The system will go broke without incentives to share the cost of healthcare, based upon te risks people are voluntarily taking, including but not limited to:

a) smoking
b) recreational drug use/abuse
c) obesity or extreme obesity
d) unwillingness to control blood pressure or other conditions.

As far as I am concerned, we take the stats. If smokers cost 35% more to take care of than non-smokers, those who smoke pay 35% more in 'premiums' each year. And 35% more in co-pays.

Those over a certain weight or BMI pay based upon experience of that obesity level. If it is 25% more, they pay 25% more per month, and pay 25% more for co-pay.

Everyone has a co-pay. When things are 'free' they are abused.

and most importantly:

this is the way the Fed gov't should tackle the health care crisis - you participate, or you don't get coverage. Period.

No 'I don't wanna, the gov't owes me no matter what' crybaby stuff.

The rest of the tax payers don't want to support those who aren't willing to take the necessary steps to have overall good health.

It is always a risk/reward situation. You mimizie the risk, you reap the benefits. You take the risks, you pay. If you can't control your weight, or nicotine or other fits, then you pay the price.

No one is 'entitled' to 'being taken care of' cradle to grave.
