AM: "I think she felt there was something missing in her life and she really loves the music. I think she needed the fellowship of the people"

I loved Christmas carols and still love to sing them along with my wife, daughters and grandson(s). I miss being able to sing them at church on Christmas eve.

I also miss the camaraderie because the Episcopal church that we attended when the kids were small was pretty liberal with a well educated flock of interesting, nice people.

I do not miss the music or the camaraderie so badly that I am willing to lie and pretend to believe in a mystical being which has no explanatory value whatsoever in terms of helping me understand the universe, morality or other ultimate questions that may be unanswered or unanswerable.

And I don't want to go through the awkwardness of being invited and asking, 'can I go even if I don't believe in God?"

Your post sums up - exactly - my own feelings on this subject.
I just couldn't have said it any better if I had tried.
