American funds is an excellent company, however the Washington Mutual fund has been in the bottom quartile for over 2 years now., This once was a 5 star and is on its way down (now a 3 star. The R-5 share class is the lowest cost share class offered by American. There is no 12b-1 fee. The R shares (1-5) are only offered in Retirement Plans. They carry no front end or back end load. The only difference in the varying R shares is the expenses/ Expenses vary based on Advisor compensation. There is no Advisor compensation on the R5 therefore it has the lowest expenses. EuroPacifc is an excellent choice.
There is a high degree of overlap between Washington Mutual and ICA.
