With RTW this means the influence of unions on worker activities is either ended or curtailed. Union featherbedding (each works to a specialty and cannot intrude on another’s) no longer applies, and, as a controlling force on employee activity, the unions no longer have sway or influence. This is huge.In a union shop each works to a job description (union decided) that allows work within a description but not beyond. A driver can drive but not load or unload a truck; an electrician can wire an area but not energize the circuits; a cameraman can position lights but not physically move them; and on and on.What unions know is with RTW they can’t dictate how work is done and, because of this, their influence diminishes.Sure, as more drop out of union membership the unions will have less income yet the loss telling how work should be done is a huge blow.MichaelR
