To a local newspaper:

I understand that you are a business. As a business, you have the right to profit off of people who want to access your website. As part of a dying industry, you can try to grab any last dollars you can. As a consumer, I suggest that it may not be good policy to try to require a dead person's relative to subscribe to your website in order to read an obituary. Your business may be headed towards a dead end but it may not be wise to press hard on the accelerator on the way there. Consumer friendly policies may keep you on life support for a little longer.
