A very basic question-- if someone gives me a check, but I don't deposit it or cash it right away, does it count as income when I receive the check, or only when I deposit it?Could I, in principle, defer taxable income to a future year by saving my paychecks without depositing them? Indefinitely? What if the check were in the mail?
