And am I committed to this mortgage broker because I signed all the loan docs?

Have you agreed (verbally or in writing) to go with him?
Have you paid him any money?

If not you aren't legally committed to him. (Although you'll have to answer for yourself for any matters of conscience)

I am considering applying for a loan elsewhere because of these high broker fees.
A broker's fee of $2k may not be unreasonable.

I'd try some of the online spots to see what you can get there...
and others...

My purchase loan used ditech.com; and I'm refinancing through etrade.com Both were able to give me an approval quite quickly, (pending receipt of supporting documentation - sales agreement, W2's, etc.)
