And that anticipation was based on? A psychic's prediction? Perhaps a return prepared without Schedule M because you didn't know you needed it? An answer to my seemingly SA question might help us tell you where your logic went awry.

My anticipation was based on the figures on my 1040. I didn't know about the credit and didn't know to fill out Schedule M. I will admit that the last few years, I just fill out the 1040 without reading the instructions.

Next year I will read the instructions.
