And then we are reminded of the days when NJ state govt was funded by royalties on the railroad that ran through the state connecting NYC and Philadelphia. For years, NJ had no income and no sales tax.Property tax paid only for schools and local government. Many NJ fire departments are still manned by volunteers.Now the shoe seems to be on the other foot. Did they kick the can down the road to their grandchildren? Or pass it on to all those escapees from metropolitan NY?And wait a minute. What about per capita state debt obligations? I'd bet NJ comes close to No. 1 on that one too. And one day tax payers may have to pay that one too.
