and they say there's a lot of waiting around in baseball! The NFL, trying to make itself a global brand, began exporting films of games to European Sports Channels so build a fan base. (I wonder if they called it "soccer", since "football" was already taken?)After a few years they elected to fly a team over and play a real live game in front of the fans, and many showed up, but many of those didn't stay for the full game. Seems the NFL had been editing out all of the non-action, time outs, 1st down measurements, penalty replays and so on, and so the Europeans thought the game was much more continuous and compacted (you know, kind of like soccer) and were bored by the way the game is so drawn out.
