Don't forget the opportunity to do some consulting or to teach a few courses at the local college. They will be glad to have you. And you keep involved, up to date, and active in your field.

And do look into the many volunteer opportunities. They give you some place to go, get you out of the house, working with people. And they can't fire you. Much less stressful. Good for you and yours.
