Mel asks the question in a recent post.

From what I have gleaned, from many sources, annuities are a nice palliative for those who need a security blanket and can afford the luxury. It seems to be a product one pays for (and pays for and pays for). It appears to be a vehicle for others to siphon off a little of your probable gains under the assumption that you are too lazy, or lack the wisdom, to manage your own portfolios. In some cases that may be correct.

On the other hand (if one can stave off alzheimers) I see no reason why most of us can't manage our own money. I have read some nice arguments for not being seduced by the annuity ploy. I will try to find them and post the references to this board. Any thoughts?

Stony
