I have the opportunity to invest my 401 savings with TIAA-CREF. However, as I understand it all of their funds are offered through variable annuities which seem to be frowned upon by the Fool community.

My question is this:
Is it possible for me to invest with TIAA-CREF and then when I reach my retirement age just take all my money in one lump sum and roll it over into a Roth IRA or some other management scheme, or will I only be able to get my svaings at retirement through monthly annuity cheques?

Thanks for the help,
