Another benefit to single payer is that it gets most of the business world out of the medical coverage providing game. It's a huge expense for them. If they no longer have to provide that for their workers, they become more competitive with companies in other nations that already have such a system.

If they're receiving (or are going to receive) government assistance (through tax credits or deductions or whatever), why not just cut them out of the loop entirely. Either way the government is paying for it, so there's really no difference from a taxpayer standpoint.
