Well, I've been a Fool for two years, but just discovered this board. As a greeting, I thought I'd pass along a link to another site of similar content that might be of interest.

http://www.randi.org

It's a site by James Randi, the famous skeptic. I'm sure many of you are familiar with him, but he just opened a message board on his site that has exploded in the month or so that it has been around. There is a section entitled "Religion and Philosphy" because, as he puts it, "Who could have an opinion on these two topics?" :-)

Most of his site is spent investigating (in a fair manner) claims of psychic powers, faith healing, and the like. He has a standing offer of a million bucks to anyone who can demonstrate paranormal powers under controlled (but fair) conditions. Needless to say, no one has ever come close. His most recent encounter was with Sylvia Browne on Larry King's show last week. She agreed to take the test, but the consensus is that she'll be "too busy" to schedule it.

Sylvia used a cheap shot against Randi on King's show, by bringing up his lack of belief in God to prejudice callers against him. Of course, his lack of belief had nothing to do with her ability (or rather, inability) to demonstrate psychic powers, but most of the callers expressed their sorrow at his lack of belief before asking Sylvia if their deceased loved ones were happy Other Side. After the broadcast, she called him a "godless bigot" on her own site and posted a link to some rather slanderous (and unsupported) accusations against him. (Can you say 'false witness'?) It's pretty clear that she uses Christianity as a marketing tool in order to rake in big bucks from grieving people. What a shame.

Long post I guess, but I thought I'd say hello...

Kurt
