Apple is one of the best run US companies, has great products, and continues to do very well. Personally I think every investor should own some. Compared to other growth companies its price earnings ratio is a modest 17. Apple is not over priced.

Still as others have pointed out, Apple cannot go on growing forever. So buyers need to keep an eye on it and may eventually decide it is time to sell. But at discount broker commissions, that is not a big deal. It is one you hope you can put away and let it continue to grow for another 10 to 20 years.

As for the retirement aspect, yes it should be part of a diversified portfolio, but for many there should be room for Apple in the mix.
