I'm working on my documents to apply for a job at a large consulting firm. One of the things they seem to do is list many nearly identical versions of the same job. In this case, there are about a dozen and for example the difference is usually the vendor of the software package the candidate could specialize in.
I'm trying to decide if applying to all of them is the right thing to do, or picking just a few. I would use the same resume and cover letter.
I suppose if they don't want multiple applications they wouldn't post multiple copies of a job, but I also don't want to irritate the HR or recruiting staff.
Any thoughts?

Determine who the hiring manager is for each position. Send your material to them. Avoid the HR staff. The job and the function of the HR Department is to screen the applicant pool OUT, not in.

If you can't locate the hiring manager and must go through HR, apply once for all jobs, if necessary send in multiple resumes.
HR is a pain, but they understand you may qualify for more than one position.

This is all online, so it would need to be done individually.
I would also hope HR just figures it out, but it's hard to tell if the applications go through the same person (this company has almost 2000 jobs listed right now).

Are you having to complete a separate application for each one? Or do you complete one application and then attach it to the jobs you want to apply for?
I would probably go for all of the positions that I felt I was qualified for, but I would tweak the cover letter to reflect which position went with which application.

Actually NOT AT ALL. The terms of the Partnership subscription offering documents stipulate that the Limited Partnership will close and distribute the Partnership assets at the end of 2019, unless the one-year partnership extension feature is exercised by the General Partners.
Astroemeria, do you not understand how Venture Capital Limited Partnerships actually work?

I seem to recall you saying you retired quite some years ago. Did they even have on-line applications back then?

Not everyone's at a VP level, and what may not be the new-norm in one industry (Finance) might be different in another (technology).
And for a lot of Federal jobs, even if you socially know the hiring manager, or are having your resume handed to them through a mutual contanct, you're still expected to go through the Fed application process (which is avaiable online)

Kahuna, when you were applying for jobs the internet didn't exist. These days most companies have their applications online. Heck, even WALMART requires online applications.
