The taxi driver said "Lagos is a poor city." I pointed out that Lagos has pavement, traffic lights, even signs that have electric motors that change the message. Point Noire didn't have paved roads, stop lights or street lights.

Today I listened to trumpet recital. The guy was excellent.

Now I live in a small town, in poor part of the state. While the guy was playing an excellent flugelhorn solo I drifted off a little. The auditorium was a 400 seat facility, worth at least a million dollars. There was no fee for entry.

I couldn't help but think that it was just awesome. Awesome that we have outstanding musicians and facilities in a back water. It also made wonder; Is this the golden age that we will look back on?

Cheers
