Aren't Realtors® essentially just real estate agents who belong to a trade group (National Association of Realtors)? (Isn't that why we're putting the ® after the term?)In theory a Realtor is supposed to honor a code of ethics where they put the customer's needs ahead of their own. In reality, a person doesn't change just because they have signed a piece of paper that says they will do that. It's mostly a marketing ploy. People are people, with some good, some bad, some excited to do their job right, some just out for the buck. I found that it is an industry that tends to drive out those who care much about ethics, and that Realtors are blocked from doing what would be best for their client, such as telling someone what they know about an area, by the litigious environment that has made them retreat into keeping their info to themselves. Get to know the individual you are interested in hiring, not just the titles they carry based on their NAR certifications.IP
