Art: It said in the article that they weeded out the cities below 50,000. Those are the cities that are the most attractive to me. Less traffic, less people, less congestion, and usually less crime. I like peace and quiet and the small town atmosphere."

depends on the city........if you are on an interstate...fine.....

if you are out in the boonies...way out...your community has to be self sufficient...but you'll probably not have the medical specialists you need and you might have to travel 40-150 miles to 'the big city' to get medical treatment.

Live in, say, Alpine, TX (pop 6000)....and it is 50 miles to the nearest Walmart or Home Depot.

Or live in the panhandle of TX, like Dalhart TX (pop 5000) and it is 150 miles to Amarillo......for a decent big hospital and specialists. Worse in MT and WY where you can be 300 miles away!

Lynchburg VA was nice (50K people) but it was 150 miles to civilization from there......and not much entertainment.....dull......and 10 years behind the times...although with the internet they are probably not so far behind any longer.
