As an immigrant to this country, I'm amazed at how the American people have let themselves become enslaved to their government thru taxation. Didn't you have the Boston Tea Party to protest taxation without representation?
Yet here you are, at the beginning of the 21st century, and you pay more in taxes than you do for food, clothing, and housing combined.
First they take 40% of your pay off the top. Then you have employers paying Social Security taxes, basically taking money away from you.
You have property taxes. I live in NJ, and will be paying $6200 a year starting Monday. That's a nice chunk of most people's income.
Then you pay taxes on most of your purchases. Another 6% here in NJ. Plus the extra taxes on gas, etc. Hotel room taxes, taxes on your phone service, cable service. I'm sure there's a ton of other stuff I haven't even thought of.
Have any of you ever looked at what's left over? Not much!
De Tocqueville said the freedom of the American people would end when they sold out to their leaders. That's happened here already. There was a time when the function of government was to do the things necessary to keep a country running. They didn't need income taxes for that.
These days, the goverment has taken over. They basically steal a huge percentage of your income, by force if necessary, and distribute it as they see fit. Somehow, for every dollar they give you, you seem to pay at least $1.50 to them.
And as for Social Security, wasn't there a man by the name of Ponzi who was arrested for implementing a similar scheme?
It's no wonder so many people aren't making it in America. Yes, we could all cut back and live on bread and water (if you have a water filter), but is that the principal that America was founded on?
Hope this tirade doesn't annoy too many of you, but I'm just amazed that people keep electing politicians who promise to take more of their money from them. And then get excited about a lousy $600 back.
