As far as LBYM, I've always lived the lifestyle. My parent's raised us that way. I started saving money when I had a newpaper route as a kid. I also sold tomatoes out of the garden and cut grass.
IF,
I wish I had been smart like you. My parents were incredibly good at LBTM, but I rebelled. My mom was a little over-the-top, and I resented it. We had two different types of tissue in my house. The cheap tissue was for nose blowing. The good tissue was to be used only as coffee filters. I got yelled at for using the wrong tissue for blowing my nose. My mom had many of these types of money saving ideas.
When I got into my 20's, I didn't want to be like my mom, so I spent my money quicker than I earned it.
These days I am more like my mom. I also appreciate that my parents were able to give me everything I ever needed, and a lot of what I wanted. My dad passed away, but not before they travelled a great deal. Mom still travels and lives quite well, even though dad never made much money.
Of course, I occasionally make fun of my mom for the tissue thing.
