As said before, this is going to be a personal decision with arguements on both sides.

Me personally, I paid my house off and am now investing what was my mortgage note. Mainly because of comfort and security. Don't have to worry about a market downturn, job loss, etc, etc, and not being able to make payment. At worst now, I just don't make that monthly investment. I do sleep more comfortably knowing, as the past few weeks have shown, that I own the house and that "Mr. Market" didn't just run away with part of the deed.
