At the cost of gas today, I'd stick with a stash of "Jeep" cans, made for fuel, buy one once in a while, lots of knockoffs around I see them at local flea markets, Harbor Freight likely has 'em cheap... I've had 'em back when doing a lot of dirt bike riding, but gave 'em away later... Some of the actual military surplus ones from Korea, Nam may be tough to find the right spouts.. But metal is still safest..

You might consider making up a 'day tank' setup, gravity feed to refill the genset.. Dad had one on the side of the garage way back when, for the tractor... No road taxes paid, so pretty cheap gas at the time.. Not sure if there are still small delivery services available today..
