I've recently graduated from college (6 year plan) and finally have a real job making real money. I'm planning to open a Roth IRA through an online broker but am unsure what to put in it. I'm considering the Vanguard S&P 500(VFINX) or the Vanguard Total Stock Market(VTSMX) at the $2000 per year right now. What do you all think I should do with a Roth IRA, I'm totally new to all this. I have about $3000 that I want to get compounding ASAP. This web-site has been great for me. Thanks to all you Fools !!!

If you're going to buy mutual funds, go directly to the source, Vanguard in your case. There is no reason to pay broker's commissions on no load funds. Set up an account with an on-line broker when you are ready to buy individual stocks.
